Mr. George Handley, the chairman, presided, and amongst those present were Councillor H.S. Goodby, Mr. Leslie Hanson, and Mr. C.A. Price (vice-presidents); and the members welcomed as visitors Mr. H. Councillor Goodby, who brought an apology from his father, Alderman Goodby (president), and a donation from him towards the dinner expenses, proposed the toast of “The Branch", Mr. Hanson supporting, and the Chairman replied, expressing the branch’s regret at the inability of Mr. Woodwiss (the hon. secretary) to be present.

The
following report of the Administration Sub-Committee was received:-
Refreshment Rooms, King’s Heath Park
The tenant of these refreshment rooms, Mrs. S.E. Blake, died on the 29th
November, 1936. A communication has been
received from Mrs. Blake’s daughter, Mrs. F. York Jones, asking if the
Committee would be willing to allow the tenancy to expire on the 25th
March, 1937, as she does not wish to take over the tenancy, and no other member
of the family is interested. Mrs Jones
also asks for permission to hold an auction sale of her late mother’s furniture
at King’s Heath House.
Mrs. Blake was granted an extension of her tenancy of the above
refreshment rooms for a period of three years from the 25th March,
1936, at an annual rental of £80. She
had been a tenant of the Department for over 50 years.
1619 Resolved:-
That the Tenancy Agreement of the Refreshment Rooms at King’s Heath Park
with Mrs. S.E. Blake be terminated on the 25th March 1937, and that
no objection be raised to the holding of an Auction Sale of furniture at King’s
Heath House, and further that the General Manager be authorized to advertise
for tenders for the tenancy of these Refreshment Rooms.

Refreshment Room Tenancies
A number of the tenancies of
refreshment rooms in various parks expire on the 25th March, and
tenders have been invited for the new tenancies as from 25th
March. The tenancy of King’s Heath Park
was included.
It has been usual in the past to
invite tenders for one and three years respectively, but in order that all
triennial tenders shall expire on the same date, tenders for one and two years
only were invited on this occasion. The
present tenants were also invited to tender again by separate communication.
The tenders received have been
opened by the Chairman of the General Committee. The names of the present tenants who have
tendered again are marked *.
No offers have been received for
the refreshment rooms at Billesley Common, Perry Hall Playing Fields, and

English Folk Dancing
An application has been received from the Warwickshire and Birmingham
Branch of the English Folk Dance & Song Society for permission to arrange
Folk Dancing in King’s Heath Park and Sparkhill Park on four evenings between
the 14th May and the end of July, 1937, and for this purpose to take
a van into the parks for amplifying gramophone records. The evenings suggested are Mondays and
Thursdays. Previous applications by the
Society have been granted in respect of dancing, but I am unable to trace
permission having been given for amplifying apparatus. In the event of your Committee deciding
against amplifying apparatus, I understand the Society will endeavour to
arrange for an orchestra or small band.
It is not the intention of the Society to make any charge to the public.
I understand that there are no performing rights in connection with the
playing of music or records for folk dances.
The instructions of the Committee are desired.

the incoming tenant and they have been offered to the Parks Committee for

this is a fair price and recommend that the offer be accepted.
